Buildings, Swim Club Remembered at Miller's Ale House

During negotiations related to the sale of the De La Salle Home Association property, association President Nick Micozzie requested approval to have a display of the association's old building, including an artistic rendering of the properties, placed prominently within the planned restaurant. The property owners lived up to that commitment and hundreds of patrons see the displays every day when they visit Miller's Ale House.

The beautiful picture of the Home Association's buildings was painted by artist William Ressler and is displayed on the wall located in the bar area nearest to the Springfield Ford property. In addition, a picture of the former De La Salle Swim Club is featured prominently in the restaurant's main hall.

Both displays will serve as a lasting tribute to the buildings and swim club, while preserving some of the history of the site and sparking nostalgia for our members, their families and many long-time pool patrons. In addition, the displays serve as a visible symbol of the Knights of Columbus and a reminder to local residents of our involvement in the community.

It is a rich history we should always be proud of.

Upcoming Dates
July 11 at 8 p.m.:  Council #590 Monthly Meeting
July 18 at 7 p.m.: Home Association Meeting
Dear Brother Knights:

I hope that summer is treating you well. I am writing to share with you some recent changes to our by-laws, as well as provide an update on the activities of the Knights of Columbus De La Salle Home Association.

As you may know, De La Salle Council #590 is designated as a Non-Profit entity, which means that under IRS rules, it is prohibited from owning assets, such as land and leases. As a result, the De La Salle Home Association was formed to hold assets and provide a home for the Council through which it can meet its principle mission: Charity, Unity, Fraternal and Patriotism.

To be a member of the De La Salle Home Association an individual must be a De La Salle Knights of Columbus #590 member in good standing and purchase a script at a cost of $25.00. Home Association members have the right to vote on the leasing, buying, and selling of property as well as the election of officers to association's Board of Management.

I have also included a number of updated on recent activities and shared a copy of the by law changes for your review.

Blessings to all,

Nick Micozzie, PGK, Editor

De La Salle Home Association President

Home Association By-Law Change

Since the sale of our property, the De La Salle Home Association Board of Management has conducted open meetings every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Primos Secane Westbrook Park Fire House in Secane at 7 p.m. Due to the difficulty in obtaining a quorum, the lack of attendance by script holders, and very little financial activity to report, the Board of Management recommended the following by-laws change. The membership approved the change.

The following is the Amended Home Association By-Law as enacted on May 16, 2013 by the association membership:

Section 1. The officers of this Association shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and nine directors, and together shall form a Board of Management. Nomination of officers shall take place at the June prior to the election of officers at the July meeting and there shall not be any nominations at the election meeting excepting to any office that is open with no nominees due to declination of nominees. The installation of officers will be held at the July meeting. The officers shall hold office for a period of two (2) years and the directors for a period of two (2) years. Three directors, the President and Vice President are to be elected on odd numbered years and two (2) Directors and the Treasurer and Secretary to be elected on each even numbered year. At all regular and special meetings of the Board of Management, a total of any five (5) combined officers and directors shall constitute a quorum.

Section 2. The Board of Management shall meet regularly on the third Thursday of each month during the months of February, June, July and November and the officers of the Association shall be the officers of the Board of Management. Regular Board of Management meetings shall be open to all Association members. Special meetings of the Board of Management shall be open to Board of Management only. A Home Association Board of Management member shall attend all De La Salle #590 Council Meetings and provide a report and/or updates to the membership on any Home Association occurrences.

Section 1. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Association and of the Board of Management; he shall sign all orders on the Treasurer and perform all duties appertaining to the office. He shall be ex-officio a member of all committees. Compensation of the President, the Secretary, the Treasurer and Counsel shall be set by the De La Salle Board of Management on an annual basis.
